Filling an application form with the extension
Choose a saved optimized résumé, fill and attach it, then review tailored drafts for written application questions.
Updated September 30, 2026
When an application needs you — or you simply prefer to send it yourself — the extension can do the typing.
Straight from an optimisation
After reviewing the optimized résumé, press Use this résumé to apply. The extension opens the posting only after it has linked that exact saved résumé to the new tab. When the employer's form loads, JobMatch can fill it automatically and keeps the same résumé through redirects, new tabs and later form pages.
From an application page you opened yourself
- Open the employer's application form.
- Press the JobMatch button in Chrome's toolbar.
- When the popup says Application detected, choose Résumé for this application. The exact posting match is selected first when JobMatch knows it; otherwise choose any saved optimized résumé from the list.
- Press Fill this application. JobMatch fills fields it knows from that résumé and your Application Profile.
- Review the answers and complete anything outlined in red.
The choice belongs to this application tab, not every site you visit. It is remembered for up to six hours and carried through the application's redirects and steps. Choosing a different résumé in another tab does not change this one.
Résumé and cover-letter uploads
You do not need to download the résumé to your desktop first. When a form asks for a file, the extension:
- requests the selected optimized résumé from your JobMatch account;
- generates its PDF only then, using its saved template;
- places that file into the employer's upload field as if you had selected it yourself.
If the optimized résumé has a cover letter and the form requests one, it does the same for the letter. The popup shows upload requested when a visible file field is already on the page. It never replaces a file you attached yourself.
The browser remembers only the application context and saved résumé ID for the tab — not a permanent copy of the document. The employer receives the file normally once it is attached to its form.
On a careers site the extension doesn't know, turn on Help on every site first. Using the extension on any site If a form sends a verification code to your JobMatch inbox address, the extension's Verification code card shows it. Your application inbox
Fields it cannot answer truthfully are outlined in red. In Prepare only, review and press the employer's submit button. In an authorised Auto-submit open forms campaign, the extension advances and submits only when every visible required field is complete.
Draft written answers
When the page asks a narrative question such as Why are you interested in this role?, What motivates you to work here? or Describe a relevant accomplishment, the fill panel offers Draft written answers. One batch covers up to eight eligible questions on the visible step and costs 0.25 credits. The cost is shown on the button before you ask for it.
The extension uses the exact optimized résumé selected for this application and the saved job description. Each answer appears in an editable box inside the extension panel. Read it, change it if needed, then press Use answer to place it in the matching employer field. Nothing is inserted until you choose Use answer, and text you already entered is never replaced.
Before writing, JobMatch also runs a small professional web search using only the company, role and question — never your résumé or personal details. Search results can improve company, industry and role context, while the résumé remains the only source of claims about you. The panel links the sources it used.
- If the employer states a character limit, the draft stays within it.
- If no limit is visible, the draft is one concise professional sentence.
- The same question batch in the same tab is remembered, so reopening the panel does not charge again.
- If the résumé cannot support an answer truthfully, the panel asks for your detail instead of inventing one.
When the site hides the question
Open Paste a question in the fill panel. Paste one complete question, choose the empty form field where its answer belongs, and add the employer's character limit if one is shown. Press Draft answer, review or edit the result, then press Use answer. This uses the same résumé, job description, professional research and truth checks as automatically detected questions.
If the page exposes only an internal field name instead of its visible question, JobMatch labels it an unlabelled field rather than sending that identifier to the writer. Paste the visible question to answer it safely.
The writer does not answer salary, start date, work authorisation, consent or demographic questions. Those are personal or legal facts for you to provide. Review every draft before using it; the employer's final Next or Submit button remains yours in Prepare only mode.
When it may press submit
The extension presses Next or Submit only when the prepared application belongs to an active campaign where you chose Auto-submit open forms. It stops for login, CAPTCHA, consent, an unanswered field, a missing required document, or an ambiguous button. It never overwrites anything you've already typed and never bypasses a protection.
Afterwards
An automatic submission is moved to Applied immediately. For Prepare only, press I sent it in the extension's panel after you submit to move it to your Applications tracker.
If no résumé appears in the selector, optimise one while signed in, then reopen the extension popup. If the selector itself is missing, update the extension and refresh the application tab.
