Applicant tracking system (ATS)

Software employers use to receive applications, store résumés, move candidates through stages and search their pool. Greenhouse, Lever, Workday, iCIMS and Taleo are common examples. Recruiters search and filter candidates in it, so a résumé it cannot read cleanly is at a disadvantage.

In JobMatch.AI: JobMatch’s templates are single-column, text-based documents built to be read cleanly by these systems. Read more about Applicant tracking system (ATS)

ATS-friendly résumé

A résumé whose text, headings, dates and contact details an applicant tracking system can extract correctly: real text rather than an image, a simple column layout, standard section names, and no information hidden in headers, tables or graphics.

In JobMatch.AI: Every JobMatch PDF is checked after it is made: the text is read back out of the file and compared with the résumé. Read more about ATS-friendly résumé

Résumé parsing

How an ATS turns a résumé file into fields — name, contact details, employers, titles, dates, education, skills. Parsing errors are why a candidate’s profile can show the wrong title or a missing job.

In JobMatch.AI: The document audit checks parseability first: layout, sections and whether the text extracts in reading order. Read more about Résumé parsing

Keyword match

The overlap between the terms in a job posting — skills, tools, qualifications — and the terms in a résumé. Recruiters search for these terms, so a qualified candidate who describes the same work in other words can be missed.

In JobMatch.AI: JobMatch uses the posting’s own words where your record supports them, and never counts the company’s name, salary figures or equal-opportunity wording as keywords. Read more about Keyword match

Tailored résumé

A version of a résumé rewritten for one job: the experience that answers that posting brought forward, described in its terms, with less relevant material shortened.

In JobMatch.AI: This is what the résumé optimizer produces, from your own record, for each posting. Read more about Tailored résumé

Evidence (of a requirement)

A line in a résumé that shows a candidate has done what a job requires — the proof behind a claim, as opposed to a keyword placed without it.

In JobMatch.AI: Before rewriting, JobMatch marks each requirement proven, equivalent, partial or absent, quoting the lines from your résumé. Read more about Evidence (of a requirement)

Cover letter

A short letter sent with an application that connects the candidate’s experience to the specific role and employer, usually three or four paragraphs.

In JobMatch.AI: JobMatch writes one from your tailored résumé and the posting, plus a short version for email or LinkedIn. Read more about Cover letter

STAR method

A way to answer behavioural interview questions: the Situation, the Task, the Action you took and the Result. It keeps an answer concrete and short.

In JobMatch.AI: Live Interview Assist drafts STAR stories from your résumé, with every employer, date and figure kept as your record states them. Read more about STAR method

Behavioural interview

An interview built on questions about what you did in past situations — “Tell me about a time…” — on the idea that past behaviour predicts future behaviour.

In JobMatch.AI: The Interview Coach has a behavioural stage, and scores answers against your own history. Read more about Behavioural interview

Screening questions

The questions on an application form beyond the résumé: work authorisation, sponsorship, notice period, salary expectations, location, licences.

In JobMatch.AI: Your Application Profile answers them once; the extension and Auto Apply fill them only from what you gave, and leave the rest to you. Read more about Screening questions

Easy Apply / one-click apply

A job board’s own short application, sent through the board with a saved profile rather than the employer’s form.

In JobMatch.AI: JobMatch’s job search prefers the employer’s own posting over a board’s copy where it can find it. Read more about Easy Apply / one-click apply

Staffing agency posting

A posting by a recruitment agency rather than the hiring employer. It may describe a real role, a role for several clients, or no specific role at all.

In JobMatch.AI: JobMatch filters known agency reposts out of its job search and labels an agency posting on the boards it supports. Read more about Staffing agency posting
